What’s on your palette for Summer?

For Art’s Sake offers a variety of ART CLASSES! From classes for pint-sized artists and Private Lessons to Portfolio Development and Adult classes, we have options for all ages and skill levels! Classes are held August-May with the exception of Private Lessons which are available year round.

Oh, and in case we forget to mention it in the descriptions below, all of our classes are first and foremost FUN!

Classes will be held August 2024 - May 2025! Dates and times have been adjusted since the last session so please check carefully for any changes made to our class schedule before registering this Fall.

We will follow the Madison city school system as far as school closings including inclement weather days.

The classes listed below are our current recurring class options. Receive email updates on newly offered or additional specialty classes by signing up for informational updates at the bottom of this page.

Each class is set up on a 20-week semester with four weeks per session. We encourage interested students to sign up for the whole semester in order to cultivate their creative abilities and prepare them for higher level classes. You can sign up for any of the sessions at any time… meaning if you missed a session or two, you can still sign up for the next session. You can also sign-up month to month.

*We cannot accommodate drop-ins. Please let us know in advance if your kiddo would like to try a class out before signing up for a session.

*Grown-ups are welcome to drop off and pick up your kiddos or stay for a while until you and your young artist are comfortable with the class. We have found through our teaching experience that children tend to try harder, learn more quickly and are more creative when the instructors are the only source of assistance during class. If you decide to stay and observe, we respectfully ask that you not assist your student during class.

  • General Art

    Ages 6 - 13

    Tuesdays 5:30PM - 6:25PM

    General Art is for students who are interested in a variety of art making techniques and materials. Throughout the course students will explore traditional and non-traditional art making materials, participate in creativity exercises and learn about the connection between visual art and the wider world.

  • Adult Art

    Ages 18+

    Tuesdays 6:30PM - 7:25PM

    Adult Art is for anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in a variety of art making techniques and materials. This class will focus on introducing traditional and non-traditional art making materials to students as well as refining the techniques of the more experienced artist. All skill levels are welcome.

  • Private Lessons

    All ages

    Thursdays 4:30PM, 5:30PM & 6:30PM

    Private Instruction is a one-on-one teacher/student lesson where For Art’s Sake artists will develop individualized instruction based on the students’ interests and skill level.

  • "Saturday Sketches & Scribbles!"

    Our Saturday Art Camps offer children ages 6-13 a chance to explore their inner artist! Each Saturday, campers will have the opportunity to create a unique 11x14 canvas panel painting! Join us for these half-day art camps where we will explore creativity and learn new artistic skills. We strive to foster confidence in artistic expression and technical skill. Most of all, we strive to have fun! All skill levels are welcome! Come dressed for a mess and pack a snack! We are excited to see you there!

  • Summer ARTventure Camp 2024

    May 23 - July 31

    Our Summer ARTventure Camp offers children ages 6-13 a chance to explore their inner artist! Each week our art activities will center around a different theme. Campers will have the opportunity to work with a range of mediums including painting, drawing and 3D materials. We value individuality and creativity, so student choice is incorporated into all art activities. We strive to foster confidence in artistic expression and technical skill. Most of all, we strive to have fun! All skill levels are welcome!

  • Drawing 1

    Drawing 1 is for Elementary aged students who are interested in developing their drawing skills using a variety of drawing media including but not limited to graphite pencils, colored pencils, markers, charcoal, and ink. Students will not only focus on building technical skills but also on the expressive nature of drawing.

    Each session is four weeks long. Participants are encouraged to sign up for multiple sessions as the overall course will progress throughout the season.

  • Drawing 2 & 3

    Drawing 2 & 3 are for students approximately 10 and up. For Art’s Sake teachers will work with the student and family to determine the best placement for each student based on experience rather than age.

    In Drawing 2 students will continue to develop their proficiency with drawing materials.

    Drawing 3 students will continue that development as well as explore their individual artistic styles.

    Each session is four weeks long. Participants are encouraged to sign up for multiple sessions as the overall course will progress throughout the season.

  • Painting 1

  • Supervised Open Studio

    Supervised Open Studio is for students already registered in General Art, Drawing and/or Painting. Students may come to the studio to work on previously started artwork or to experiment with materials. For Art’s Sake artists will be on hand to offer guidance and support. Students interested in Portfolio Development are encouraged to use this time for individual consultation.
